I turned my college life around my second year of college. During my
first year, I met someone that I knew way back where we were both
classmates in our algebra class in the 7th grade. Actually I met a
few of my classmates who were from the same high school that I went
to. Anyway I met Joanna during my first semester and as you would
know it, we were in the same physics lecture and discusson class. It
was no coincidence that we were meant to be friends. Heading back to
my second year, Joanna and I planned out our schedule to take more
classes together. It was the same year that I met Amina who lived
close to both Joanna and me in Oakland. That year was special because
I got my life turned around and I don't have to rely on video games as
a way to relax. The three of us bonded together and did our homework
together either near our homes or at school. It also showed in my
grades as well as I gradually increase my GPA from the original 2.00.
Our schedule was ahead that we took our first upper division
technical course during our second year. It was an accomplishment in
itself. We also took a chemistry course at a community college during
the summer to keep ahead of schedule. Besides all of that, I finally
learned what true friendship can bring in life as I never had one
before. Unfortunately, Amina did not do so well that she eventually
dropped out of the college. It was very disappointing because I
considered her my best friends and as time went by, that friendship
just dwindle and faded away. It was just sad for both Joanna and me.

First year of college
My life before graduating college has been a rollercoaster ride. My
first year of college did not go so well. I was almost kicked out of
the University of California at Berkeley because of my poor
performance. My poor performance was a combination of my high school's
lack of college preparation and my lack of motivation to succeed. My
mind was not focused on college, but more on my personal life. As I
entered college, my parents underwent separation/divorce. This was
such a distraction that I couldn't focus in school. To get my mind
out of this distraction, I basically focused on something that I
regret, but kept me from going insane: video games. As with any
problems I faced, I usually turn to video games to keep me relax.
Some people may turn to other things like alcohol but for me, video
games allowed to relax where people can't, but that changed later on.
Anyway after my first semester of college, I was on probation and on
my way to be kicked out of college if I don't make the 2.00 GPA at the
end of my first year. Although my personal life was still a major
distraction, I worked enough to meet the 2.00 GPA and saved myself
from being kicked out. It was a year where I lack motivation and had
a low self esteem, but my second year, that all changed and refocused.
